Add This Section To EVERY Job Description

Add this section to EVERY job description:

Potential Career Paths

Most companies are interested in hiring people who want to grow and develop professionally (hopefully with their company). Unfortunately, you wouldn’t know that by looking at most job descriptions. Most are boring, written with compliance in mind, and focused solely on the job in question. Which is fine, but also uninspiring, uninteresting, and indistinguishable.

You can do better. We all can (myself included).

What if you – we – thought outside the box? Produced job descriptions that highlighted roles that high performing employees could potentially transition into. Job descriptions that indicated a larger role (and therefore impact) employees could work towards.

Adding a Potential Career Paths section do your job description does the following:

▶ Helps your job description stand out from others

▶ Is a conversation starter (sparker!)

▶Attracts and motivates growth-minded candidates/employees

▶ Indicates you’ve given thoughtful consideration to workforce planning by creating workforce ladders/pathways

▶ Is transparent with candidates/employees about some of the roles they can potentially grow into

It’s 2022. If you want to attract (and retain!) employees who are interested growing and developing with your company, you must show and tell them what’s possible. You can do that by including a Potential Career Paths section in every job description. EVERYONE. (That is code for not just executives.)
